MENA Newswire News Desk: Rosemary DiCarlo, Under-Secretary-General for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs at the United Nations, expressed her appreciation for the Republic of Korea’s support for UN peace initiatives during a recent visit to Seoul. In Seoul, DiCarlo held discussions with Minister of Foreign Affairs Park Jin, Minister of Unification Kim Yung-ho, as well as senior representatives from the Korean National Assembly, including the Chair of the Foreign Affairs and Unification Committee and the Vice Speaker. Their talks included a review of the current security dynamics on the Korean Peninsula and regional peacebuilding measures.

A significant part of the discussions addressed recent missile launches by North Korea on October 31 and November 5, both of which violated existing UN Security Council resolutions. DiCarlo and Korean officials emphasized the need for international cooperation to address such security threats and prevent further escalation on the peninsula.

The talks also covered broader peacebuilding challenges, including updates on UN efforts in Afghanistan, the Middle East, and Sudan. Korean officials expressed interest in supporting the UN’s work through the UN Peacebuilding Commission, particularly in areas aligning with Korea’s international development priorities.

Following her meetings, DiCarlo praised Korea’s commitment to the DPPA’s work in a formal statement, reaffirming the importance of continued collaboration with Korea to address global security challenges. She described Korea as a key partner in advancing the United Nations’ peacebuilding mission and highlighted their shared goals in fostering stability and diplomatic engagement.

Both sides affirmed the importance of regular communication to support coordinated responses to current and emerging security issues. DiCarlo’s visit reflects the United Nations’ strategy to strengthen partnerships with nations actively contributing to international peace and security.
